KUNG FU
“Keep the opponent in a state of intellectual disposition. The opponent can not defend against that which he can not comprehend… Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected.”
~ SUN TZU, The Art of War
Praying Mantis Kung Fu or Mantis Boxing is one of the most popular and effective systems of Kung Fu to emerge from ancient China. Famous for its speed and continuous attacks, Mantis Boxing combines the in-close fighting of Southern Chinese systems with the fast moving footwork of Northern systems.
While many styles of Kung Fu build their curriculums around performance sets, also known as forms, where the self-defense is left to the imagination, we build our curriculum around providing the student with a solid foundation in self-defense. We view forms as a tool towards this goal, much like shadow boxing found in western boxing. As such our curriculum focuses only on a limited number of fighting sets. We believe in practical quality over flashy quantity.
Students can expect practical training in the traditions of one of Chinese boxing’s most popular styles, Praying Mantis Kung Fu. Training will include: traditional mantis forms and line drills, realistic sparring and self-defense drills, learning improved balance and footwork, rapid striking, take-downs, chin na controlling (joint locks, pressure points, constriction) and a wide variety of traditional kung fu weapons.
Looking for realistic self-defense in a traditional martial arts setting? Look no further, this is the class for you!
