KAJUKENBO MMA – Karate, Jujitsu, Judo, Kenpo, Boxing

“The Original American Mixed Martial Art”

Developed in 1947 by American immigrants, Kajukenbo is known as the original American mixed martial art. Designed with the sole purpose of being effective at any fighting range, Kajukenbo combines the techniques of classical martial art systems: KA – Karate, JU – Judo & Jujitsu, KEN – Kenpo, and BO – Boxing.

Unlike many styles of martial arts and self-defense, Kajukenbo leaves out the performance ‘fluff’. In its creation, the founders tossed aside all techniques that did not consistently work in real life situations, leaving only consistently effective techniques. Focusing on interdisciplinary forms of fighting, Kajukenbo is a proven means of self-defense with a realistic, anything goes view when it comes to training and fighting.

Being a constantly evolving combat system, no two Kajukenbo systems are quite the same. All Kajukenbo practitioners are encouraged to make the style their own and thus instructors of Kajukenbo teach based upon their lineage, personal training and largely upon their style preference. Our particular method of Kajukenbo, Matsuno Ryu, traces it’s lineage through Joseph Holck (Joichi Matsuno) and Peter Choo and thus places strong emphasis on Jujitsu/Judo & Kickboxing. In fact Joseph Holck’s Lineage is the only lineage that still maintains the original Jujitsu and Judo techniques brought by Joseph Holck during Kajukenbo’s conception.

**Boxer’s Rebellion Martial Arts students are trained fully in both Matsuno Ryu Kajukenbo and Matsuno Ryu Goshin Jujitsu (The modern Jujitsu system founded by Joseph Holck’s son, Vinson Holck that combines the techniques of Judo, Jujitsu and Karate under the original philosophies of Kajukenbo.

***This is a high impact class, where students should be ready for intense training. Training incorporates modern MMA style sparring and Judo Randori (free-style sparring focusing on throwing/take-downs and ground fighting).
