FAQ

Will I get into shape doing your classes?

  • Absolutely!  We have had success stories ranging from losing a few pounds in the first week to losing 70 .lbs in a year’s time.  The thing to remember is that it is all up to you.  Martial Arts classes are a great form of exercise, however it ultimately depends on how hard you train, how often you train, and your healthy (or lack thereof) lifestyle outside of class.

I do / do not like kata / forms, is it part of your training?

  • It depends upon the program.  First and foremost all training at the BRMA is based upon realistic partner work with self-defense in mind.
    • Kata is not an original element of Kajukenbo and thus is not part of our training.  Contrary to what many modern Kajukenbo schools have come to teach, when it was founded, there were no kata or forms associated with the system, these kata were added in later.
    • Mantis Boxing Kung Fu teaches through the use of forms.  This is the case of almost all traditional kung fu systems.  It should be noted however that forms, like western shadow boxing are only as good as the techniques and teachings found within.  At the BRMA, we pride ourselves on the traditional fighting forms we teach and believe in practical quality vs. flashy quantity when it comes to form.

Why are your prices lower than <insert school name>?

  • We believe that quality instruction should be available to everyone and we wanted to make sure our program is affordable.

Does your school participate in tournaments / competition?

  • Yes.  However, participating in competitions is not required and is completely optional.
